WP App Review : Tiny Space

Tiny Space (Version 1.0)
Redware
Free

Tiny Space is a simple strategic game where you must destroy  the bases of two opposing teams by controlling a regenerating squadron of tiny airships. As the name implies, the battlefield is small, consisting of your phone's screen. This makes for a faster paced game play and it doesn't take long to start getting into the game.

You start off by selecting one of three teams, based on color : Red, Green, or Blue. However, it's a false sense of choice as the different colors make no impact to the game. There are no specific advantages of selecting a certain color and your starting position on the battlefield is the same as well. After you select your team and a difficulty setting you're given the basic set of rules : eliminate the hostiles and upgrade your weapons/tools.

The three bases are spread out in triangle formation and at each base, tiny ships begin generating. The ships at your base can be controlled by simply tapping on a space on screen and the whole squadron of ships will navigate toward that spot, eliminating any hostiles that they come into contact with. Ships that are destroyed and automatically regenerated at the base and there is a set limit of how many ships you may have in your fleet at any given time.

As your ships defeat more enemies, you'll have the ability to upgrade your damage output, armor, speed, and health by tapping on the appropriate icons to the right of the screen. It seems that just the basic upgrades of damage and armor are good enough to beat the game. Strategy is straight-forward, or rather non-existant. You can gather your squadron just far enough from the hostiles and when they go attack the other team you can maneuver your way to their base. It may take a couple tries but you'll eventually wear them down. When only one base is remaining, you simply attack from one side and as your new ships regenrate you can flank them.

It's a fun, yet quick time-waster but the enjoyment will probably only last a few games. There really isn't any challenge or solid replay value other than trying to best your time that it takes to defeat both bases. The hard difficulty just makes the game a 2 vs 1 situation as both opposing teams relentlessly attack you and it isn't much fun as you simply keep guarding your base. The game itself it fun while it lasts but for those looking a bit more variety and replay value, Tiny Space will probably only take space on your phone for a tiny bit.

Pros : Quick, fun, simple
Cons : No variety, low replay value
