WP App Review : Instance

Instance (Version 1.1.5)
Daniel Gary
Free / $1.49

Instanceis a recently released third-party Instagram app which features uploading as well as viewing photos, commenting, and liking. As of this review, it's more fully featured than the other third-party Instagram app, Instagraph, although an update is upcoming for the latter.

Instance features a clean and easy to use interface, allowing you to easily view your photostream, popular photos, and activity. Uploading photos is straight-forward and the app allows you to freely crop your photo to a 1x1 format (unlike the current Instagraph version which forces a center crop.)

Currently, there are only 13 filters and they're your usual styles found in many other photo editing apps. If you like to go wild with artistic filters, the limited choices may leave something left to be desired. But you can easily edit your photos in a third-party app first and use Itsdagram for upload only. Viewing photos and overall navigation is smooth and simple and you can easily double-tap a photo to instantly "like" it via the photostream. It's a nice feature to have, although having an option to turn it off would be welcome since it can be easy to inadvertently "like" a photo while you scroll.

Overall, Instance is a wonderfully executed app that fills the Instagram void on Windows Phone nicely. There are still a few bugs to be ironed out such as "followers" and "following" not showing up, but the ability to upload, view, comment, and like are all included.

It's still unknown if an official Instagram app is coming, or if Instagram will stop these third-party apps from hitting the store. However, having the choice of these third-party apps is a great addition to the marketplace.

Pros : Fully featured Instagram app (upload, view, comment, like)
Cons : Still a few minor bugs to be ironed out
