Paper Dash is an updated take on the classic NES game, Paperboy where you're in control of a newspaper-delivering teenager riding a bicycle. Your sole purpose is to deliver the newspapers to all the subscribers as you dodge obstacles in the form of traffic cones, potholes, dogs, etc.
The game has you riding a bicycle and acceleration is automatic. The blue quarter circle on the left controls your sideways movement while touching the bottom right-hand side of the screen pops up a directional arrow where you can control the angle and velocity of your newspaper throw. The basic controls are simple and the sideways movement isn't too bad. If you've ever played the original Paperboy on NES, then these controls are a lot more fluid.
Throughout each neighborhood are different obstacles such as traffic cones, potholes, dogs, etc. which you must avoid all while making sure to deliver to each mailbox. Along the way are soda cans/bottles which you can pick up for money as well. A perfect run through a neighborhood entails delivering to all the houses as well as collecting all soda cans. There are some bonus items as well such as a bigger bike basket to carry a few extra newspapers and an item to increase your throw accuracy, or a bike helmet to gain an extra life or items to increase payload.
The game features three cities with a few neighborhoods each in which you can play through. Stages increase in difficulty by means of more obstacles, frequency of mailboxes, and difficulty of obtaining the soda cans. Overall, the game controls are solid and even navigating through the narrow sections are relatively easy. You get three lives per stage and in some instances you'll need them as the game progresses since the amount of obstacles go up rapidly forcing you to multitask - dodging and delivering can get a bit tricky.
The game features simple, cartoon graphics, and has a nice BGM to it. The stages are short and sweet so it's a fun game to play on the go with it's solid controls. Even if you don't have nostalgic feelings towards the classic NES Paperboy, it's still a fun game to try out.
Pros : Simple and solid controls with decent gameplay
Cons : A bit repetitive
