WP App Review : TextTextRevolution!

TextTextRevolution! (Version 1.15)

TextTextRevolution!, no doubt named after the rhythm/dance game Dance Dance Revolution, is a text-based "game" where random words are given and you have to type them out as quickly as you can. As soon as you correctly type the word, the next word appears. You basically type as fast as you can to spell out as many words in the allotted time.

It's not an actual "game" per say, but with the points system it does add a bit of game element to it as you try to best your points tally and text accuracy. The main word is up front and center while the upcoming word is right above it, in smaller size, so that your typing flow remains relatively smooth. As you type out the word, even if you miss the actual letter, as long as you hit the letter next to it it still counts, at the expense of accuracy.  If you completely miss the letter, the word turns red and you'll have to hit the right letter to progress. Once you've completed the word, a quick press of the "space" button brings you to the next word in the list. There are also two rating bars on the screen - the bar to the left displays your current WPM (words per minute) and the right bar shows your current accuracy.

As seen in the shot above, you can type in either the horizontal or vertical position. The game is fun in short bursts and can help you improve your texting speed in a fun and entertaining way. It plays smooth and the only game play mechanic that slowed down the flow was when typing short words in succession, the words don't show up as quickly as I'd want it to, especially if I was hitting around 60wpm. Also, the global score leaderboard seems to be broken ...

The game is pretty old, the last update being in 2011, so I'm sure there won't be any more updates. However, some BGM and sound effects would make this app a bit more immersive. As it is now, it's just pure silence. Nevertheless, if you want to hone your texting skills, this "game" is a fun way to do so.

Pros : Fun way to increase your texting skills
Cons : A bit bland with no music or sound, could use some polish
