WP App Review : tumblr.

Tumblr, the popular blogging platform, has officially arrived on WP8, adding yet another mainstream app to the marketplace and further proving that the Windows Phone platform is gaining more popularity and that developers are starting to take the platform more seriously. For those not familiar with Tumblr, it is as mentioned, a blogging platform which has gained it's popularity as a photo-blogging site where users share random photos. Searching tags will yield several image results as well as any other related material posted on Tumblr blogs.

Personally, I'm not an extremely active user of Tumblr, using it sparingly as a photo-blog to share smartphone photos every now and then. Once I switched from the iPhone to the Lumia, there was obviously no official Tumblr app so I eventually stopped using the service, which was a shame considering the Lumia 920's great camera.

As previously mentioned, I'm not a super active Tumblr user so a stable app with basic uploading and browsing ability is all that's needed. The app is similar to the iOS version which I had previously used, allowing you to easily add photos, videos, text, etc. The interface is simple, as seen below, and it's extremely simple to use.

Browsing through photos is fluid and although the app supports GIFs (which is popular on Tumblr), the speed of the animation seems to be double or triple the normal speed. Hopefully they fix it in an update and other than that, the app works extremely well. Searching through tags is also implemented and no faults were found. Another good feature specific for the WP8 platform is being able to set the app to your lock screen, allowing photos to cycle through. If you're a fan of Tumblr or you're looking for a simple and easy way to blog on the go, I would definitely check out the app and give it a spin.

Pros : Stable, Clean UI, Easy to use
Cons : GIF animations are sped up
