Nokia Drive+ Beta WP8 Release

Nokia has released Nokia Drive+ Beta for all Windows Phone 8 users for the US, Canada, and UK. Previously, the turn-by-turn voice navigation was exclusive for Nokia WP8 handsets only, but they have now made it available to all users of Windows Phone 8.

Nokia Drive+ Beta is a great overall navigation app which performs quite well. GPS lock on is quick and accurate and re-rerouting is reasonably quick as well. The maps load up fast and look great and maps are downloadable for offline use so that you don't have to worry about data usage if you're on a limited data plan. Several voice packs are downloadable as well, including spoken street names in English.

Personally, I do have some issues with it's routing, sending me to some longer loops and dead ends while using it in San Francisco. Users overseas seems to have less problems with that however. I would love for it to include local traffic, something the Nokia Maps has yet to offer as well. But the app is free and still in beta form so we can only hope that they improve on the app.

* Reading the reviews on the app page, it seems that a lot of users are having problems with a SIM error while trying to use the app. Your mileage may vary.
