WP App Review : MangaTronic

MangaTronic (Version 1.2.2)
Djooleean
Free

MangaTronic is a newly released photo app which turns your regular photos into manga (Japanese comics.) I originally saw this app in the marketplace a few days ago but didn't bother to download it the first time around. However I decided to give it a try and was pretty amazed at how well it renders photos into a nice manga art style.

There are currently 15 different manga effects which you can choose from. They're pretty similar in concept but do have their little nuances. Once you load a photo and select a template, it renders the photo nice and quick. The output works amazingly well and I was decently surprised at the results.

It works really well on almost all types of photos, but results come out a lot better with simpler compositions and subjects such as cars and people.

More detailed photos such as landscapes may not come out as cleanly but it'll depend on how busy the photo is.

Overall though, the app works wonderfully with most of the photos I've thrown at it. The one thing I'd like to see is for the app to be located in the Photo Apps or Camera Lens selection. For now, you'll need to pin it or access it via the apps list. As mentioned, there are currently 15 different styles you can choose from and hopefully more are added. An addition to add custom text would be pretty nice as well. However, for a first release, this app can only get better.

Update Version 1.2

This latest update adds more effects and the overall rendering process seems slightly quicker. A few little UI tweaks and an "invert" mode are added as well. Still no Photo App or Camera Lens access though ...

Pros : Renders amazingly well and works with a majority of photo styles
Cons : Needs to be accessible via Photo Apps or Camera Lens
