WP App Review : Robotek

Robotek (Version 2.6.8.22)

Free

Robotek is an aesthetically pleasing turn based role-playing game featuring wonderfully colorful visuals. There are three main actions you are allowed to make during your battles, forcing you to make strategic choices as you decide to attack or defend. The overall game play is simple, yet very addictive.

After a few tutorials lessons you are given a world map where you can choose where to fight the invading enemies, although you'll most likely want to stick close to your starting point and branch outwards due to the increasing difficulties of enemies further away.

The main action screen features a slot machine where you have the choice of three main actions. The first selection summons a drone, bot, or droid to help aid in attacking and defending. As you activate the slot, the first column will spin slowly, enabling you to easily choose which helper robot will be summoned. The other two slots are random. If you match two, then you'll get an upgraded version of the matched robot. If you match three, you'll get the strongest version of that specific robot and you'll get an extra turn. Matching nothing will summon one of each, in it's basic form.

The next action available is defensive, giving you the chance to hack enemy robots and make them join your side, put up a barrier in various strengths, or take away energy from your opponent while boosting your own offensive power. The last action is offensive, allowing you to fight with a shock attack, laser beam, or microwave blast. Again, matching two or more of any of these choices will summon a stronger version of it.

There is a bit of strategy, as well as luck, which will undoubtedly make you think on which action to take at a certain point in the battle. As you fight, you also have limited access to some bonus skills such rapid fire, allowing you to attack twice in one round, or call upon an emergency repair for your robots.

After leveling up, you'll eventually get some coins which you can use to upgrade your actions. The game itself is free and fully playable, but you can also choose to pay for extras to speed up your progress (and to help support the developers.) There is also a multiplayer mode included which further extends the game's replay value.

The overall game is wonderfully executed. The visuals are vibrant and colorful and the game play is fluid. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy turn-based role-playing games.

Pros : Beautiful visuals, fun game play
Cons : None
