If you're a fan of role-playing/simulation and puzzles, you'll want to check out Puzzle Craft which is a game that incorporates a bit of all these genres. The game has you build a settlement and advance it by constructing buildings, hiring workers, mining, farming, and more. Straying from other similar types of games, Puzzle Craft has you complete mini-puzzles to obtain the necessary ingredients/materials which makes the overall game play fun and addicting.

The game begins with a short tutorial to give you all the basics and then you're quickly on your own. The game is simple enough; get a bunch of workers, farm, mine, and construct buildings. In order to build or hire workers, certain material requirements are in place which force you to farm or mine, both of which activate a fun little puzzle game where you collect the materials needed.

The rules of the puzzle game are your generic "match three or more" and you can slide your finger across in all four cardinal directions as well as at an angle to string along a large combination. The more you match, the more materials and bonuses you obtain. For example, if you match 10 or more chickens, a pig will pop out. The number of moves starts off at 10 moves (which you can increase), shown as different seasons. The puzzle game is over when all moves are completed and the season ends.

There's also a puzzle game where you mine for rocks and ores and the same rules apply. As you progress to higher levels, there'll be different obstructions such as rats that eat your wheat on the farm, or gas which can blow up in the mine. In order to make gathering materials easier, you can also construct tools which can collect all of a certain type of material in one go.

As you collect more and more materials you'll soon be able to construct new buildings and hire new workers to make your job easier. But of course, you'll need to collect a certain amount of materials before you can construct or hire new workers.

There is of course an in-app purchase of coins to progress through the game quicker, or you can wait about an hour to collect taxes from your settlers. The game can be addicting and you don't necessarily have to pay to progress quickly. And that's probably a good thing as the game does heat up the phone rather quickly and drains battery at a high pace. Therefore it's best to play the game in short bursts and it definitely doesn't take away from the overall enjoyment of the game.
